Kavaklıdere pool reopens after eleven months
The municipal swimming pool returned to service on Monday following repairs to a filtration system that failed last September.
The municipal swimming pool in Kavaklıdere reopened on Monday morning after an eleven-month closure, ending a repair programme that ran roughly four months longer than the council first announced.
The pool closed last September when its filtration plant failed during a routine inspection. The council initially expected the work to take seven months. Replacement parts for the pumps were ordered from two suppliers after the first order was cancelled, which accounted for most of the delay.
"We lost a full season, and the swimming club lost more than that," said Orhan Tepeli, who has coached the local youth squad for nine years. "The children trained in a pool forty minutes away, and about a third of them stopped coming altogether."
The council said total costs came to slightly under 4.2 million lira, against an original estimate of 3.1 million. A spokesperson said the difference was almost entirely the second parts order and the labour needed to install it.
Opening hours will run from 07:00 to 21:00 on weekdays and 09:00 to 19:00 at weekends. Entry for residents stays at last year's price until the end of September, after which the council will review it.
